This Moment Matters

Updated: May 16, 2020

Sometimes life feels pretty mundane. My days are often filled with preparing meals, shuttling my kids around, doing the dishes, sweeping the floor, helping out with school activities, and mediating arguments. Somewhere in the midst of all that, I start to wonder if I’m missing out on something. Isn’t life supposed to feel more significant than this?

But I hear God telling me that these moments matter. Be present. Don’t miss it.

The kingdom of God is in your midst. – Luke 17:21

It is made up of these simple, mundane moments. It’s found in the way that I care for my family. It exists in the way that I communicate with those who don’t agree with me. It dwells in the text messages I send to check in with friends. It’s present around the dinner table.

The kingdom of God can be found wherever you are. Do you see it?

Open your eyes and look to the fields! They are ripe for harvest! – John 4:35

Stop looking ahead to what’s next. Stop waiting for something more significant to fill your days. Be present where you are. These moments matter. These people right in front of you matter.

Each moment is an opportunity. It’s a chance to receive mercy, to see beauty, to show compassion, to speak with love, to affirm God’s image in someone else. Each moment is a chance to bring heaven to earth. Each moment matters.
